A funeral party for the forgotten fallen heroes of music.

A journey in poetry and sound from poet Genevieve Carver and live band.

*Winner for excellence in Spoken Word, Buxton Fringe 2017*

You’ve heard of Kurt Cobain. You’ve heard of Jim Morrison. But have you heard of Scott Johnson, or Anne Naysmith? The Unsung is a funeral party for the forgotten fallen heroes of music – not the famous dead rock stars, but the people whose story has never been told.

This colourful journey in words and sound from poet Genevieve Carver and her live band of three multi-instrumentalists is a whirlwind tour around the world exploring how music has shattered the lives of those who’ve loved it most. Expect to be transported from Malian deserts to Mediterranean cruise ships, meeting characters from Prokofiev’s wife to Radiohead’s drum technician, to a soundtrack that shifts seamlessly from 80s synth pop, to gypsy jazz swing, African grooves and more.
After touring throughout 2017 to venues including London’s Roundhouse, catch The Unsung on their last England date before they head to Greenside Venues at the Edinburgh Fringe in August.

Reviews

«A joyful celebration of music as an undying beacon of hope and inspiration. Carver exudes a warm humility that perfectly complements the fragile and overwhelmingly human spirit at the heart of her storytelling» — The Reviews Hub

«A triumph; raw and deeply honest» — A Younger Theatre
«Haunting and raucous: an exercise in delightful, demanding language» — The State of the Arts

“Bittersweet, profound, joyful. Genevieve Carver is one of the leading stars of the northern spoken word scene, often amusing and heartbreaking in the same sentence.” — Now Then Magazine
