Accelerate guided Recce Run
Sunday 13h August 2017, 11am – 2pm (approx.)
FREE OF CHARGE (please observe parking info/charges at the bottom of this page).
A chance to join others on a fun 15mile run at a slow ‘n’ steady pace.
With Accelerate Performance Centre's Laura Inglis as your guide, runners are invited to pack some food and drink, then set off on a single lap of what will be the exact race route on the day.
Among the benefits:
An ice-breaker for those about to attempt the full Ladybower 50 race on the 17th September 2017.
Step by step guide to the challenges of this course, the terrain and ‘lay of the land’.
Laura will answer any questions you might have about what to expect on race day and will suggest a suitable spot at which to briefly sit down and enjoy a bite to eat/drink (do bring something with you please), so that the Q&A can be conducted face to face instead of during what might be a steady jog.
The emphasis on this day will be on fun and a relaxed way of getting familiar with the upper Derwent Valley.
Race Sponsors Accelerate and Mountain Hardwear will be contributing toward this year’s Ladybower 50 prizes, therefore – a test pool of running vests will be available to try on* and/or purchase at an exclusively reduced price — (£5 off rrp for this recce event only — please bring exact money with you if you think you might wish to make a purchase, thank you).
*Vests will not be available to run in unless already paid for.
If you think you might be interested in trying a 3L or 6L running vest on for size, this is your chance. Details of the packs offered can be seen via the following link:
This event is completely free of charge and suitable for all**
**runners taking part will need to be confident at an undulating run of 15miles in an exposed area.
Runners are expected to bring with them a waterproof jacket, food and drink to last for 10 miles of continuous running (with one stop for Q&A).
Due to the nature of this course, upon completion of the first 5-mile section, the group will have opportunity to revisit the start/finish location, just as on the event itself – so a brief stop for water refills and kit change will be provided. Those people testing a new pack can decide whether to remain as they are, ahead of the remaining 10 mile loop.
The run should end by 2pm approx.
Parking at Fairholmes (beneath Derwent Dam), Bamford, Hope Valley S33 0AQ is £3.50 for upto 4 hrs or £4.50 for all day. Runners take full responsibility for their vehicles and belongings for the duration of their stay. Free parking can be found along the approach road into upper Derwent Valley (off the A57) – on a first come, first served basis — but cannot be guaranteed.
There is a kiosk at the Fairholmes Visitor Center, for basic food/drink and ice cream, open 9.30am – 5.30pm.
